Cohere

"Cohere was founded in 2019 by Aiden Gomez with Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang. Aiden Gomez has a PhD in computer science from Oxford University, and his 2017 academic paper "Attention is all you need" is a key piece of research in the current wave of generative AI, laying the theoretical foundation for the development of large models at OpenAI and other companies. The first is the "Attention is all you need".

Compared to OpenAI, which focuses on C-suite users, Cohere is going in the opposite direction - only doing big model services for the enterprise. The company customizes AI models for companies such as Oracle, LivePerson and Notion, which help enterprise users perform tasks such as summarizing documents and writing website copy.

Technically, 'Cohere's' AI platform is capable of deploying public clouds (e.g. Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services), customers' existing clouds, virtual private clouds, etc. The startup works closely with customers during the development process to create customized models based on users' proprietary data.

In addition to the aforementioned businesses, 'Cohere' also runs a non-profit research lab, Cohere for AI, and publishes open models, such as multilingual models for understanding and analyzing text. Its latest flagship model, Command R+, also provides many of the features of more expensive models (e.g., GPT-4o) at a much lower cost.
