Scale AI was born in 2016 as a Y Combinator startup program, founded by Alexandr Wang and Lucy Guo (Lucy left Scale AI in 2018, retaining 6% of the shares), the two founders have a deep technical background.

Scale AI's core business is data labeling, in addition to a very rich product line. The products are divided into 4 main categories: Annotate, Manage & Evaluate, Automate and Generate. For example, Scale Catalog is an image generation tool for e-commerce scenarios, Scale Spellbook is a tool platform for developers of large language models, and Scale Synthetic is a synthetic data product.
